Manhunt underway for ‘armed and dangerous’ suspect with AR-15 after chase, GSP K9 shot

COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — Coweta County sheriff’s deputies and Georgia State Patrol troopers are searching for a suspect who ran after leading them on a chase.

Deputies say the chase ended in the area of S. Hwy. 29 and Calico Loop near Grantville when the suspect got out of the car and ran.

The suspect’s identity has not been released, but deputies say that person should be considered “armed and dangerous.”

Coweta County Sheriff Lenn Wood says the suspect had an AR-15 when he ran from the scene. Sheriff Wood says a GSP K9 was shot.

According to the City of Sandy Springs, the K9 was flown via helicopter to BluePearl Pet Hospital on Abernathy Road for emergency surgery.

“Those in the area are asked to get inside and lock the doors and report any suspicious activity,” the sheriff’s office wrote in an alert to the community.

NewsChopper 2 flew over the area and saw the road blocked by deputies, GSP troopers, LaGrange police and SWAT teams.

Georgia first lady Marty Kemp posted on X that she was in prayer for the injured K9.

“Please join me in praying for this K-9′s swift recovery, and for comfort for his handler and family,” she wrote.
