COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — A community is mourning the loss of a 16-year-old football player who died after a car accident earlier this month.
Family and friends of 16-year-old Javier Dodson wrote on GoFundMe that on Feb. 11th, he was involved in a car accident on Canongate Road in Palmetto.

Dodson was rushed to a local hospital, where he underwent several medical procedures. Family and friends confirmed that he died five days later on Feb. 16.
“It is with a heavy heart that we come to you to say that heaven gained another precious angel. Javier was given his wings,” the fundraiser said. “We now ask that you continue to pray for Brandy and the family’s comfort and guidance as they navigate this next chapter.”

Family and friends said Dodson was a Northgate High School student and a football team member.
A candlelight service was held Sunday at Henry Seldon Field to celebrate Dodson’s life.
“Wanted to thank everyone for coming out last night. I’m so sorry I couldn’t continue to stand out there. My heart is hurting so bad. I’m completely devastated and lost,” Dodson’s mother wrote in an update on the GoFundMe page.
