GRANTVILLE, Ga. — The Mayor of Grantville confirmed to Channel 2 Action News Friday evening that the man wanted for murder and for shooting a police canine after leading troopers on a chase in Coweta County earlier this week has been taken into custody.
State troopers pulled over Ira Troy Williams, 51, on Wednesday night for an obscured license plate.
Troopers said Williams gave his driver’s license during the traffic stop, then led officers on a chase from Interstate 85 to Grantville, Ga.
GSP said Williams shot at troopers with an AR-15 rifle and injured K-9 Amor.

After the incident, Williams ran off into thick woods off of South Highway 29 and Calico Loop and a manhunt started. On Thursday, officers canceled the manhunt but increased patrols in the area.
Grantville Mayor Richard Proctor said Williams was taken into custody after officers found him hiding inside a truck. Proctor said that Williams had a gun on him at the time of the arrest, but was taken into custody peacefully.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation issued arrest warrants for Williams on Thursday for aggravated assault against a police officer for shooting at troopers during the car chase.
The agency also confirmed the arrest Friday night. We are working to learn more details.
K-9 Armor was treated on Wednesday night for a gunshot wound to the leg and was released later that evening to recover at home.
