Newnan Police Department to purchase virtual reality training simulator with new grant

NEWNAN, Ga. — The City of Newnan Police Department has been awarded a grant for $67,000 from the Georgia Criminal Justice Coordinating Council for the 2023 financial year.

The department will use the grant to purchase an Apex Officer Virtual Reality Training Simulator.

Apex Officer uses virtual reality technology to give officers realistic training for situations where use of force, de-escalation, and crisis intervention are needed.

The makers of Apex Officer say their customers over the years have reported the following police officer performance improvements:

  • 194% Increase in Training Effectiveness
  • 282% Increase in Hours Spent Training
  • 327% Increase in Use of Force Decision
  • 1000% Increase in Police Officer Willingness to Train

“The Newnan Police Department is very grateful for this grant and the ability to continue to train officers at the highest level possible,” the department said in a statement.
