Woman driving shot in the leg by stray bullet fired in the air along Coweta road

GRANTVILLE, Ga. — A woman was hit by a stray bullet that came through her windshield early on New Year’s Day.

It happened shortly after midnight on Jan. 1.

Grantville police said a woman was driving on Canterbury Drive, when a bullet came through the top of the windshield before hitting her near her knee, in the leg.

She was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries. Her age and identity were not released.

Police believe the incident occurred when someone was shooting guns into the air, due to the angle of the projectile’s trajectory.

“These kinds of acts are illegal and dangerous,” the police department said.
