Craigslist transaction turns violent in Walmart parking lot

HOLLY SPRINGS, Ga. — A Cherokee County couple says they set up their own sting to try to catch the people who tricked them out of money on Craigslist.

The confrontation took a violent turn at the Walmart parking lot in Holly Springs.

"Right here behind my ear is bruised, the back of head is lumped up," said Courtney Micken, describing the blows to her head, after she says she and her husband tried to confront several men, who posted on Craigslist.

Her husband, Antonio Pezzimenti, turned to the website to get a loan, but he says the people offering the services wiped his account clean.

The couple says they decided to take matters into their own hands.

"I was like, 'He don't have my number,' and my husband was like, 'Yeah, he don't have your number,'" Micken said.

Pretending to be a customer, Michen says she told the posters from Craigslist to meet her at the parking lot of the Walmart in Holly Springs.

When the men tried to get away, she says she stood in front of the car. Her husband was nearby.

"He (a man) came up from behind me and punched me in the back of the head like I was a grown man, like six times," Michen said.

"Grown man jumping on my wife, that is not right at all," said Pezzimenti.

Pezzimenti says he chased the man, and ended up tackling the man down a hill.

"I put my body weight on him, put my arm around his neck and just held him down till police came," Pezzimenti said.

Holly Springs police arrested Charles Singleton on battery charges.

"Subsequent to his arrest, further evidence was discovered on Singleton's person for potential other crimes.  This incident is currently being investigated by the Holly Springs Police Criminal Investigation Department. Due to this continuing investigation, no reports are available at this time," according to the Holly Springs Police Department.
