Buford Highway reopens after crash involving school bus, car

BROOKHAVEN, Ga. — Police are investigating a crash involving a car and DeKalb County school bus in Brookhaven.

Investigators said a BMW was leaving a business off Buford Highway and tried to turn onto the southbound lanes. The driver of the BMW failed to yield entering the road and hit the bus around 8:10 a.m.

Approximately 40 students were on the bus heading to Sequoia Middle School. All were evacuated and are being evaluated at the scene. Police said the car that struck the bus caught on fire.

“At this time, we do not believe that any of the children were injured as a result of the crash or fire. The occupants of the vehicle that struck the bus are injured,” Lt. David Snively said in a statement.

All lanes of the roadway reopened shortly after 9:30 a.m.
