The Wendy’s that was site of Rayshard Brooks’ death and near where Secoriea Turner was killed has been torn down.
Channel 2 Action News was there as crews demolished the burned-out fast-food restaurant off University Avenue. NewsChopper 2 and NewDrone 2 flew over the former Wendy’s for a better perspective of what’s left of the building.
“It needed to come down. It should have came down a long time ago,” Vicki Lynn Buckley told Channel 2′s Tom Jones.
Ameen watched as crews demolished the Wendy’s where Rayshard Brooks was shot and killed by police in June. She said it wasn’t safe.
“That’s a burned building. It’s not like a house,” she said.
Last month, Atlanta police shot and killed Brooks during a struggle over a Taser. Body camera footage captured the DUI stop and struggle in the parking lot. After the June 12 shooting, a group burned down the restaurant the next night.
The Wendy’s had been occupied by protesters in the weeks that followed. However, officials cleared it out last week following the death of Turner on July 4.
The 8-year-old was killed by a group of armed men who set up barricades off University Avenue. Police are still searching for the shooters.

While the crews were tearing down the restaurant, the family of Turner held a public viewing. Community activists also went door-to-door passing out flyers for information on Turner’s case.
Jones watched as people placed the flyers on doors, cars and mailboxes. Community activist Derrick Boazman said they planned to put out 5,000 flyers.
“Anytime a baby gets killed in our community. We lose,” Boazman said. “Sweet precious thing gone from us.”
