GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A fire destroyed a Gwinnett County home on Cordillo Drive in Dacula. It is the second fire reported this weekend at that address. No one was home at the time of either fire.
The two neighboring homes also suffered damage.
The renters, who lived at the address, were away for the weekend in Jamaica.
One of the renters tells Channel 2 Action News that he arrived home Sunday night to learn of the incident, and immediately went to the scene.
A neighbor shot cell phone video showing flames shooting up into the sky.
“I looked up and, like, the house was just engulfed in flames, I went out to see if I could try to help,” said Jacob Wolfe, a witness.
“It was very imposing and very sad to see a family’s home go up like that,” another neighbor said.
Late into Sunday night, investigators searched through the debris to determine the fire's cause, as neighbors watched on. The home is a total loss.
Fire investigators say they responded to the same home on Saturday for another fire.
“I can tell you once the fire crews left last night, they did have the fire completely out and under control,” Lt. Jerrod Barrett with Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services said.
A family in the home next door is not staying at their house because of damage to their electricity box from the fire.
