NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. — Neighbors in metro Atlanta counties are starting to get a look at the damage left by severe storms on New Year’s Eve.
Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns tracked tornado warnings for nearly two hours.
Most of the damage reports sent to Channel 2 Action News came from Covington and Villa Rica.
The National Weather Service has ruled a tornado did touch down in Newton County. Officials will complete surveys on Saturday to confirm if any other tornadoes occurred and how intense they were.

A worker at the Chick-Fil-A on Brown Bridge Road shared photos with Channel 2′s Justin Wilfon of overturned cars in the parking lot.
The worker said there were minor injuries.
“We had some drive thru patients picking up and all of a sudden the thunder came and the customer was so panicked and said can I come inside,” said witness Monir Tofangsazan.
Channel 2 viewers also said there was damage at Veterans Memorial Middle School where it took off a portion of the roof.
