CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. — Investigators have released the dash camera video of a chase and shootout that left three officers hurt and one man dead in Carroll County.

Channel 2′s Audrey Washington attended the news conference Wednesday held at the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, where the video was shown for the first time.

“Watching the video, it really sent chills up my spine,” said Carroll County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Ashley Hulsey.

Cousins Aaron Shelton, 22, and Pier Shelton, 28, are accused of leading sheriff deputies and other officers on a high-speed chase before engaging in a shootout.

Carroll County Sheriff Terry Langley said the incident began as a traffic stop on I-20 when the suspects were caught driving more than 100 mph.

The video starts just minutes after they crashed their car, following a police pursuit near Highway 61. The video is dash camera footage from Carroll County Cpl. Jamison Troutt’s patrol car.

Troutt was following the chase behind Carrollton police when he heard and saw gunfire hit Carrollton Sgt. Rob Holloway. Other Carrollton officers stopped to help render aid while Troutt continued.

There was more gunfire in the area of Ithica Gin Road near a school. Deputies said both Troutt and Deputy Jay Repetto were searching for Villa Rica officer Chase Gordy, who was shot in the area.

Moments after the officers arrived, the video shows Pier Shelton appear from the side of the road with an AK-47 as he begins shooting.

One of the bullets hit Repetto in the arm. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office said Troutt and Repetto returned fire. Pier Shelton was killed in the shootout.

Aaron Shelton was taken into custody and remains in jail without bond. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is in charge of the investigation.

“If not for the heroic efforts of all officers and agencies involved and to Corporal Troutt and Deputy Repetto for stopping the suspect, this incident could have resulted in more officers being injured or killed and the suspects could have posed an even bigger threat to the public as this occurred in a residential area, and at this time of the morning, people are getting ready for work and staff is getting ready to arrive at the school,” the sheriff’s office said.

Carrollton police said Holloway is still in ICU but improving.

“He is able to move both hands and feet and hold a cup and drink through a straw on his own. The doctors remain pleased by his progress,” said Sgt. Meredith Browning. “All of his scans came back with positive news. No evidence of spine injuries nor broken bones. His color and vital signs are “perfect.”

Repetto and Gordy have been released from the hospital.

Repetto spoke with Channel 2 Action News but couldn’t talk on camera because the GBI investigation is still ongoing. He wanted everyone to know that he is hanging in there and appreciates the love and support.
