DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A 17-year-old died Monday morning after police said his brother shot him, but family members told Channel 2 Action News it was an accident.
The shooting happened at a home off Young Knoll and Young Lane in the Redan area around 3:30 a.m.
Once police got to the scene, they found 17-year-old Dimitri Hayes with a gunshot wound. He died at Grady Memorial Hospital.

The suspect, Xavier Hayes, 17, was arrested and charged with felony murder and aggravated assault.
“We just know they got their hands on a weapon, we don’t know where the weapon came from,” their Aunt told Channel 2 Action News.

“They were very close, there wasn’t no argument, they loved each other, they are twins,” their cousin, Raven McKelvey said.
The circumstances surrounding exactly what happened is still unclear.
Investigators have not yet released the police report and the details surrounding the charges.
