DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Employees in several DeKalb County government departments could soon receive bonuses.
Back in May, the county awarded its public safety workers, including officers and firefighters, a $3,000 retention bonus. On Wednesday, DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond proposed another bonus this time for frontline employees who aren’t sworn in.

“DeKalb County’s 6,000 employees have provided high-quality, essential services throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and financial crisis,” CEO Thurmond said.
Thurmond’s proposal would grant $1,500 bonus to workers in several departments including watershed, sanitation, library, parks and roads and drainage.
Other employees would receive a $1,000 bonus. The proposal heads to the Board of Commissioners for approval.

Thurmond also discussed a second round of incentives for employees who get vaccinated.
Employees who provide proof of COVID-19 vaccinations, boosters or flu shots could receive up to $500 under the proposal.
Incentives offered earlier this year led to 67% of employees fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
