Several people displaced, units damaged after DeKalb County apartment fire

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb Fire and Rescue Department had several crews on the scene of an apartment fire in DeKalb County.

Just around 2:45 a.m. Monday, DFRD got the call about a fire on on 2708 Summerview Drive at the Hairston Woods Apartments.

Channel 2′s Justin Carter was LIVE on the scene on Channel 2 Action News This Morning.

A neighbor said he smelled smoked and when he looked outside, he saw flames on the side of his unit.

“I’m thinking it’s the chimney. I go out and check the chimney but it’s not smoking. I come around the corner, the whole first floor portion of the wall just covered up including the stairs,” said Jaihad Abdur, resident.

A total of eight people have been displaced and four units have visible destruction and damage.

There have been no injury reports and everyone got out safely.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
