Local Starbucks fails health inspection

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — UPDATE: The store received a 94 upon reinspection.

-------------------------

A local Starbucks failed its latest health inspection and the violations include problems with roaches.

The Starbucks is located at 2826 North Druid Hills Road in DeKalb County, not far from the Toco Hills Shopping Plaza.

The store received a score of 65 out of 100.

Channel 2's Carol Sbarge talked to company officials and customers.

"They're failing their health inspection ... that's embarrassing," customer Moshe Stein said.

Stein said he buys coffee at this particular Starbucks about two or three times a week but now he's reconsidering.

"I expect it to be over 90, yeah," Stein said.

The violations include roaches crawling on the floor in front of the hand washing sink and underneath the espresso machine.

The inspector said an employee put his or her hand into a trash can, then continued to handle food utensils.

Another violation was that the dishwasher wasn't hot enough.

Sbarge sent a producer inside the store to ask the manager about the violations.

No one would talk to us on camera but a corporate spokesperson said the company's top priority is the health and safety of customers.

"We immediately engaged a third party vendor to conduct a thorough inspection and in-depth cleaning of our store following this health inspection," spokesperson Jaime Riley said.

"We will continue to work closely with the city to ensure compliance with all health code requirements," Riley said.

Customers say they expect an improvement.

"Cleanliness is No. 1 because, I mean, if the place isn't clean why would you wanna go there?" one customer said.

The location should have a reinspection within the next week.

We'll be sure to let you know the new score.
