11-year-old girl, mother dead in apparent murder-suicide in DeKalb

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — An 11-year-old girl and her mother are dead after a presumed murder-suicide in DeKalb County.

On Sunday at 7:43 p.m., officers responded to the 1200 block of Ashley Creek Circle after receiving a call of a person shot.

After arriving, officers found an 11-year-old and her mother dead from gunshot wounds.

The DeKalb County Police Department identified the child as 11-year-old Makenzie B., who had recently graduated from their Summer Survival Swim Program. Her mother was identified as 31-year-old Qiana Rainley.

Detectives and crime scene investigators spent most of the night processing the area in the parking lot and towed away one car as evidence.

The girl’s other mother told Channel 2′s Steve Gehlbach that her wife killed their daughter, then shot and killed herself.

On Monday afternoon, a loved one placed two flowers near the spot where the mother and daughter died.

Police are continuing to investigate this murder-suicide.
