DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — LifeLine Animal Project asks community members to consider adopting a dog from one of its metro Atlanta shelters due to severe overcrowding.
Organization leaders said both the DeKalb County shelter and LifeLine Midtown shelter have run out of dog housing and must find 300 dogs homes before May 5, or else they will have to euthanize them.

This is not the first time this shelter has faced this difficult task.
Channel 2 Action News reported about the overcrowding problem at LifeLine Animal Project in late January. The DeKalb County shelter says it has a capacity for 450 dogs. In January, it had nearly 600.
Channel 2′s Bryan Mims reported that hours before the end of Jan. 31 deadline, the shelter announced that 345 dogs found new homes and foster families.

“We are devastated to be facing this grim reality yet again, but we don’t even have space for the 40 animals that arrive each day,” shelter leaders said. “When shelters are overcrowded, the animals become extremely stressed and sick. They need your help!”
