DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — The family told us a driver hit Lun Thang on North Indian Creek Drive as she walked to school with her aunt.

Investigators have spent the day combing through surveillance footage hoping to find an image of the car that hit the child.

The girl’s father, Zam Tuang, described his little girl as happy go-lucky.

“She was happy and she liked to sing a song,” Tuang said.

The spunky pre-kindergartner was headed to school he said with her aunt, 7-year-old sister and cousin when a car slammed into her in the crosswalk.

"They hit and run, we don't know who hit right now very sad," said family friend Pau Kap.

Investigators are aggressively searching for a dark colored sedan either a Toyota or a Honda.

“She went airborne and hit another vehicle the sedan lost control stopped momentarily and then kept going,” said DeKalb County Police Official Sheira Campbell.  "It does have front end damage. We're looking at the front headlight may be damaged.”

Tuang said Thang’s sister witnessed the horrific accident. He said his wife was home with their newborn son.

"She just had a baby two weeks ago, a baby boy. Happy time right now," Kap said.
That happiness was cut short by someone who police said was speeding through a school zone.

“If anyone is working in an auto repair shop and they bring in a Toyota or a Honda with front end damage, notify the DeKalb Police Department as soon as possible,” Campbell said.

A memorial is growing at the scene. After school Wednesday, there were two crossing guards on hand getting parents and children across this intersection.
