Badly decomposed body found in DeKalb County

Officers said they found the body down an embankment off Interstate 20 westbound between Flat Shoals and Gresham Road.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — The DeKalb County Police Department is investigating a body that was found off a busy interstate.

Investigators said a tip came in to the department about the body around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers said they found the body down an embankment off I-20 westbound between Flat Shoals and Gresham Road.

“Right now the medical examiner has recovered the body and will be conducting an investigation. We cannot tell because of the state of the body right now whether or not it is a male or a female,” said Shiera Campbell of the DeKalb County Police Department.

Campbell said the area where the body was found is only a couple of miles away from where Millicent Williams was killed.

Williams’ grandson Gregory is accused of killing her at her home and then disposing of the body. Police have charged him with murder based on evidence collected at the crime scene.

Campbell would not say if detectives believe the body found Wednesday night was that of Williams.

She said it would be up to the medical examiner to determine the body’s identity and said there were a number of ongoing missing-person investigations the department was currently working.
