DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Channel 2 Action News obtained body camera video from a deadly police shooting in DeKalb County showing what led to officers firing into a patrol car.
It happened Sept. 25 at the Shell gas station on Candler Road near Interstate 20.

One of the officers first met 33-year-old Christian Smith while trying to stop him from walking along I-20.
In the video, the officer is seen patting Smith down before putting him in her patrol car and giving him a ride to the gas station.
While there, her and another officer found out there was a warrant out for Smith’s arrest.
When they told Smith he was going to jail, he suggested that the officers may have the wrong person.
“I got two different IDs, look, look!” Smith can be heard saying on the video.

Then Smith reached under his belt and officers saw a gun. The officers then moved back and opened fire.
Smith died from the shooting.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said a gun was found by his body. The GBI is now handling the investigation into the shooting.

Both officers involved in the shooting were visibly shaken by what happened. One officer wondered how Smith was able to get a hold of a weapon.
“I swear, I checked, I swear I checked,” she said in the video.
