All-clear given for DeKalb County Courthouse after anthrax threat

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Part of the DeKalb County Courthouse was evacuated Tuesday while authorities “investigate a situation.”

Channel 2's Tom Jones was initially told someone in the clerk's office received a letter with a substance inside. A note said the substance was anthrax.

Channel 2 Investigative Reporter Mark Winne has learned that three employees were quarantined and are being checked out.

The ground floor and the clerk’s office was cleared.

The DeKalb County sheriff said he was initially told there was a substance in the letter. But when he arrived on scene, he learned there was no substance inside.

Just before 5:30 p.m., the sheriff gave the all-clear for the courthouse, saying no anthrax had been detected following testing.
