BROOKHAVEN, Ga. — Brookhaven police gave Channel 2 an exclusive inside look at a high-tech gunshot detection system called Raven.

It works off sensors placed in the areas with the highest concentration of “shots fired” calls.

The technology has already led to two arrests.

With over 90 percent accuracy, it can pinpoint within 100 feet of where gunfire occurred.

In November, just two days after the system was installed, an officer got an alert and went to a location where a man had been allegedly shooting into the air.

The officer found the man, arrested him, and recovered the gun.

On December 6, sensors picked up a single gunshot, which was relayed as an alert to a nearby officer who was able to get to the scene in just four minutes.

The officer arrested a woman who said she fired a shot into the air to scare off a suspicious man near the car she was in with her boyfriend.

The woman was arrested for giving the officer a fake name.

Police recovered a gun and a shell casing.

“If you fire a gun into the air on New Year’s Eve you can expect to see the police respond to the exact location you fired that gun,” Lt. Ayana with Brookhaven police told Channel 2′s Mark Winne.

Ayana said the system can also detect fireworks and street racing-style intersection takeovers.

“In 2023 the Brookhaven police department received approximately $1.3 million through Governor Kemp’s community reduction grant through which we pictured the Flock Raven system, additional pan tilt zoom cameras, and license plate readers,” Ayana said.
