DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County officials say they are prepared for winter storms like the one coming our way.
Channel 2′s Tyisha Fernandes was at the DeKalb County Public Works Department where they started testing their equipment on Wednesday.
The trucks they use to treat the roads have been sitting idle for months, so on Wednesday they took them for a test run.

“We start early getting the trucks prepared. But you never know, just like your personal vehicle, if it’s gonna start up when you really need it. So we always have a dry run a couple of days before the event,” Peggy Allen with DeKalb Public Works said. “[We] put all the trucks on the road, drive them, use all the mechanical devices, just to make sure the plows work, all the gears work.”
Workers will begin spreading salt and sand on the roads today.
“This is DeKalb County’s surplus of salt to make sure they’re ready to treat the roads,” Ty Bridge with DeKalb Public Works told Fernandes. “If you weren’t here in 2014, it was ‘snowmageddon’ and a lot of metro Atlanta counties weren’t ready. DeKalb County won’t ever let that happen again.”
“So many bad things happened 10 years ago. We wanna make sure that DeKalb County was covered,” Allen said.
DeKalb County has plenty of material on standby. They also have 30 tons of salt and sand at a secret location just in case they need it.
