DeKalb County Schools announced Friday they are postponing all sport activities until the end of September. This includes marching bands and auxiliary groups.
“The decision comes after reviewing the latest data from the DeKalb County Board of Health and feedback from parents, coaches and other stakeholders regarding the increase of COVID-19 cases in DeKalb County. The district has solicited and received input from the community on this topic and acknowledges that there are different opinions on the matter, however the health and safety of students and staff continues to be the top priority for DCSD,” the district said in a release.
The school district joined Fulton County Schools, whose athletic director said Thursday the district would postpone sports until Sept. 14.
Both DeKalb and Fulton county schools are expected to start the school year with virtual classes on Monday.

Those aren’t the only Georgia districts that have made the decision to postpone athletics.
Rockdale County postponed fall sports for its three high schools including Salem High, Heritage High and Rockdale County High. Twiggs, Stewart and Calhoun County have also postponed their high school football seasons. Dougherty County and Decatur High School announced they won’t start until Oct. 2.
The Georgia High School Associated said earlier this week it still plans to have high school football start the week of Sept. 4 but the date could change.
