DeKalb VA Medical Center doctor accused of sexually assaulting patients, court documents say

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A Veterans Affairs Medical Center, primary care physician, was indicted Thursday on multiple counts of sexual assault against several female patients.

According to court documents, between 2019 and 2020, 68-year-old Rajesh Motibhai Patel, a physician at the VAMC, assaulted four female patients during routine exams. U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan said Patel is accused of improperly touching them during parts of the examination.

“Our Veterans have made incredible sacrifices for our country and deserve the best medical treatment and highest quality of care,” Buchanan said. “Patel allegedly sexually abused his female patients and violated his oath to do no harm to patients under his care.”

Investigators believe there may be more victims.
