Shooter accused of killing man in DeKalb County killed in shootout with police, GBI says

DeKalb County police shooting GBI investigating officer-involved shooting in DeKalb County.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said a suspect accused of killing a man in DeKalb County is dead after a shootout with police Wednesday.

The GBI confirmed the two deaths to Channel 2′s Kristen Holloway. The victim has been identified as Benny Glass. The suspect has been identified as Willie Roy Allen, 57 of Lithonia.

Glass’ family said he was the victim of an attempted robbery. The GBI and police have not confirmed those details.

Police responded to a person shot call around 4:15 a.m. at the intersection of Hillandale Drive and Lithonia Industrial Boulevard near Lithonia.

The GBI said DeKalb officers saw a damaged car in the street with no headlights. The driver, identified as Allen, drove away as the officers approached him.

After a short chase, Allen got out of the car, which rolled down the street and hit a parked car. Officers chased Allen and tried to tase him, but he continued to run.

The GBI said Allen pulled out a gun and multiple officers shot and tased him. He died at the scene.

Prior to the shooting, police found Glass’ body in the car with a gunshot wound. DeKalb County police is handling Glass’ death investigation. Per protocol, the GBI will handle Allen’s death investigation since it was officer-involved.
