BROOKHAVEN, Ga. — Brookhaven police said a man is dead after he was hit by random gunfire inside an apartment as he slept.
Police said they responded to reports of multiple shots fired at an apartment complex on the 3600 block of Buford Highway around 2 a.m. Sunday.

Police then got a 911 call about a man who was shot at an apartment complex on the 3100 block of Clairmont Road.

Officers found 31-year-old Matthew Willson in bed with a single gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to the hospital, where he died.
Police said Willson was a doctor from Chertsey, Surrey, England who was visiting loved ones in Atlanta.

Police said they believe the incident was a random act involving individuals participating in the reckless discharge of firearms which led to Willson’s death.
