STONECREST, Ga. — A man was critically injured Friday when a huge branch fell on him. It happened as tree removal crews were working.
Neighbors told Channel 2′s Richard Elliot that a group effort helped save the man’s life.
Crews were clearing a lot for a new house along Serenity Lane in Stonecrest around noon when the project manager said a branch came crashing down on one of his men who wasn’t even working on the tree.
Isaac Sparks lives across the street from where the accident happened.
“I’m just hoping and praying that he’s still alive,” Sparks said.
The worker’s buddies quickly dialed 911 but had no idea exactly where they were. That was when they spotted Sparks standing in his driveway.
“I saw this guy come sprinting across the street with his cellphone in his hand, and he was panicking. And he had 911 on the line, so I did talk to him and directed them to my house,” Sparks said.

By the time DeKalb County Fire Rescue arrived, Sparks said the man’s crewmates had lifted the huge branch off him.
“By now, they had gotten the tree off of the guy, but he’s not moving, and we’re just hoping and praying that he’s still breathing, because I watched him a long time, and he was not moving,” Sparks said.
Another neighbor said she saw firefighters performing CPR on the man as they loaded him into the ambulance and took him to Atlanta Medical Center.
“You hate to see this happen to anybody, and on my street, in front of my house. I’m just hoping for the best for that guy. Hoping he’s still with us,” Sparks said.
Elliot said there is no word on that man’s name or condition, but one witness did tell him that the man’s injuries appeared to be traumatic.
