Emory University cancels emergency alert after man pulls gun on 2 co-workers, drives away

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A man is on the run after Emory University police say he shot at one of his co-workers and pointed his gun at another.

Emory police issued an emergency alert for Emory Point area around 8:22 a.m. Thursday and asked people to avoid the area.

One student who lives in the mixed-used complex told Channel 2′s Steve Gehlbach he woke up to screaming and looked outside.

“Apparently they got into a scuffle and shots were fired, and that’s when everyone started running. No one was hit as far as I’m aware,” Neil Pasawala said.

Police said there was a dispute between two co-workers at a restaurant in the building. One of the co-workers went to his car and came back to the kitchen with a gun.

The man shot at his co-worker and tried to leave the restaurant when he pointed his gun at a second co-worker. No one was injured.

The man left the scene in a 2021 silver Chevrolet Malibu with Georgia tag CXZ7407. Investigators said he was last seen wearing his navy blue uniform. Emory gave the all clear for Emory Point at 8:45 a.m.

“The response time from the police was incredibly quick, so at least glad I know I live in an area where that’s possible,” Pasawala said.

Emory University said the man, who has not been identified, will be “no longer permitted on Emory’s campuses or in any Emory facilities.”
