Therapy dogs reunited with 12-year-old 4 weeks after disappearing, DeKalb police say

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A 12-year-old has been reunited with his therapy dogs after officials say they disappeared last month.

Dawn Anderson told Channel 2′s Courtney Francisco during WSB Tonight on Wednesday that her son’s dogs disappeared from her porch two weeks ago.

Anderson said the dogs belonged to her son, Sulaiman Anderson, 12, and were his therapy dogs. The pets were purchased to help him cope with depression, dealing with bullies and anxiety.

“The puppies understood that they have an assignment, I believe, and that assignment was to bond with Sulaiman,” said Anderson. “Which they did, and, in turn, Sulaiman loved them.”

She said she was cleaning the dogs’ enclosure on Jan. 28 when she tied them to the front porch for a few minutes.

“I opened the door. The puppies were gone. The food was still there,” said Anderson.

On Thursday, DeKalb County police confirmed that the two 5-month-old blue-eyed Siberian Huskies were reunited with their family.

In a statement Friday, police say that two people saw the story on Channel 2 Action News and called their investigations with the location of the dogs.

“Our detectives responded to the area and were able to locate both dogs, who were with different people. After speaking with all parties involved, it appears someone found them wandering in the area several days ago and took them in,” police said. “Our investigation indicated there was no malicious intent by either party in possession of the puppies and we do not anticipate any charges being filed.”
