Police are still looking for someone who shot and killed a 24-year-old woman on a popular walking trail in Stone Mountain almost three months ago.

High school students discovered Shantrelle Monroe’s body near a playground off the trail in Mainstreet neighborhood on Dec. 12.

DeKalb County police told Channel 2's Tom Jones in December they believed someone lured the 24-year-old to her death.

But no arrests have been made and police have not identified any possible suspects either. Monroe's father and stepmother say they are frustrated their daughter's killer is still out there.

The family says police have left them in the dark in the search for her killer.

"Each time I call: 'We don't have anything new,'" James Monroe said.

"Very frustrated because we need to know who killed our daughter," said her stepmother Debra Monroe.

The family told Jones they have started their own amateur investigation. They’ve checked their daughter’s Facebook page where they’ve noticed ominous posts from her friends.

Another friend said Monroe sent her an address and phone number but she didn’t hear from her again.

Her father is so anxious to find out who took his daughter’s life that he went out to the scene and began looking around. Monroe said he found a spent bullet and turned it over to a detective.

"The detective was like, "OK, but everybody go down there and shoot all the time.' So to me, that's him saying I brought that for nothing," he said.

Monroe told Jones that fueled his belief the case isn’t a top priority and why he is asking for the public’s help.

"I just hope and pray that whoever is responsible to please come forward," he said. "I'm asking please if you know anything don't be afraid to go to police."

Jones reached out to DeKalb County police. A spokesperson said he would get with the detective and get back to Jones, but Channel 2 Action News has not received a response as of Wednesday afternoon.
