DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A family is alive, likely thanks to a stranger who saw flames while she was driving down the road.
Niki Coto said she did not know if anyone was home when she started banging on doors of the house.
It turned out, a family of five was in the basement and had no idea the home was on fire.

Coto said she was dropping off a friend Tuesday night and saw flames coming from the house on Cleveland Road in Lithonia.
“I saw from the corner of my eye sparks in the garage, reversed, and called 911,” Coto said.
She jumped out of her car and started banging on the door.
“By the time we got out, half the house was on fire,” Coto said.
The family's home of 15 years was destroyed, but the homeowner tells Channel 2's Liz Artz she's just grateful her family made it out with their lives.
