BROOKHAVEN. Ga. — A DeKalb County grandmother is in critical condition after being hit in a hit-and-run crash as she crossed the street to get to a bus stop.
Her family told Channel 2's Matt Johnson that it will take years for her to recover from her injuries.
Family members told Johnson that Deborah Gee, 59, was heading to the bus stop in Brookhaven, to go grocery shopping when instead she was left for dead Wednesday night.
“They just left her there. It's awful,” her daughter, Michaelyn Jones, told Johnson. “I don’t understand how somebody could do that. They left her there to die.”
Jones said her mother was crossing Clairmont Road around 7 p.m., headed for the bus stop she walks to every day, when, police said, someone in a beige SUV hit her near Century Place.
The impact broke several bones and her family said doctors may have to amputate her right leg.

“It's, like, day by day, really, but she's pretty tough,” daughter Chastity Shanahan said.
Police are looking for more witnesses.
Gee's daughters said two bystanders rushed to help when the driver did not.
“Thank God that there were two witnesses that stopped and saved her life or she would have died,” Jones told Johnson.
Police said the driver kept driving west on Clairmont Road toward Buford Highway and likely has front end damage to their SUV.
“It's our understanding that Brookhaven police are going through some camera data that records tags at that intersection,” family attorney Joe Habachy told Johnson.
Gee’s daughters are hoping she will be able to walk again someday. For now, they just want justice.
“We need to find the person that left my mom laying on the ground,” Jones said.
Police haven't said whether Gee was in a crosswalk or not. Regardless, the driver faces felony hit-and-run charges.
Anyone with information is urged to call Brookhaven police or call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
