Hundreds pay their respects to Channel 2′s Jovita Moore

DECATUR, Ga. — Hundreds of people across metro Atlanta today are remembering our beloved Jovita Moore.

A public visitation was held Thursday at Gregory B. Levett and Sons Funeral Home in Decatur so the public could pay their final respects.

Hundreds of people lined up in the in the rain to say goodbye to Jovita.

The outpouring of love for Jovita speaks to the heart of the people of metro Atlanta. Most of the people who came never had the privilege of meeting her in person, but still knew her as a friend.

“Her loss is very personal. You wouldn’t think that a television newscaster would be so personal. But you invite them into our home every evening. And you trust,” said Dr. Yovanda Horton. “From the bottom of my heart, and the heart of Atlanta, thank you for allowing us to come together to mourn her loss.”

“We are showing much love to Jovita. She showed love to us. We want to give it back to her,” Anna Ugochukwu said.

Everyone we spoke with said her memory will live on forever in the city and in their hearts.

“I came to pay my respects to Miss Jovita Moore,” Georgia State University chapter of the National Association of Journalists Tyrik Hill said through tears. “She was a mentor to me. Sorry, she, she did a lot for me.”

Cameras were not allowed inside the funeral home to respect Jovita’s family’s privacy, but the room she was in was just as beautiful as she was, adorned with flowers and pictures of some of her greatest moments.

Jovita joined the WSB family in 1998.

She was diagnosed with glioblastoma after doctors found two masses on her brain in April.

Jovita will be deeply missed.
