DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A Decatur mother is calling for justice and seeking answers, after her 21-year-old son was shot and killed at a DeKalb County apartment complex.
It happened on Oct. 28 at the Asberry Apartments on Flat Shoals Parkway in Decatur, the man’s mother, Cindy Freeman, told Channel 2′s Larry Spruill.
It’s a date and time, Freeman said, she will never forget.
“The first night, when I got the news, I honestly felt like my heart just shattered.” she said.

Freeman said her heart shattered into a million pieces. That’s because her son, 21-year-old Hassan Freeman, and his friend Devonte Dawson were shot and killed at the Asberry Apartments on Flat Shoals Parkway in Decatur.
She recalled the last conversation she had with her son.
“I texted my son around 8:17 p.m. on Oct. 28, and I asked my son if he was good. He texted me back at 8:27 and said yes,” said Freeman.
Freeman said little did she know that would be the last text message with her son. She said he was the father of two daughters.
Now police and the mother said the two victims were found shot dead right here, inside an hallway. Freeman told Channel 2 Action News she believes someone saw and heard something.
“I just want to say this right here. If anyone is watching and they know anything, please come forward because it could be you, your nephew, your kid. I just want to know who. Who killed my son?” said Freeman.

In the meantime, she’s praying for justice.
“I want the max. No parole. I’m standing behind everything. No mercy. Whatever they give them, I’m there for it. I’m hoping that I will walk up and realize that this is all a dream.”
As of Thursday, police said this is still an active investigation. If you know anything about the shooting, call DeKalb County police.
