LITHONIA, Ga. — The mother of a seven-month-old hit in the head by a bullet on Monday night is speaking with Channel 2 Action News and sharing her story after the shooting on Wildginger Run in Lithonia.

The mother said it has to be a miracle.

Her seven-month-old baby is alert and looking like his normal self in a shared with Channel 2′s Tyisha Fernandes Thursday, just three days after the child got caught up in a drive-by shooting that left a bullet in his head.

“He was hit in his head on the right side and the back of his shoulder on the right side as well. I really don’t know how to feel, I’m numb,” said the infant’s mother.

She fears for her family’s safety, so she has not been named in Channel 2 Action News’ coverage.

On Tuesday, Channel 2′s Tom Regan went to the house and saw where bullets hit the front of the house and got through a glass door.

She said around 9:00 p.m. on Monday, she and her kids were inside their Lithonia home on Wildginger Run, when she heard gunshots outside.

“We were literally probably one minute away from being in a deep sleep, and then I just heard bullets shooting through the wall. When I grabbed him to get on the floor, grabbed him up, he was already bleeding & screaming,” the mother said.

Baby Tristan had to get emergency surgery, but doctors left the bullet in the child’s head at least for now. It was too risky to take it out.

Even though his Mother shared a video that shows her son acting like he always does, she’s afraid for the future.

She keeps having nightmares – just thinking about nursing her baby – then hearing gunshots.

A bullet grazed her arm too, and she believes that’s the reason why her son is still able to smile.

“I don’t know if it grazed me and then hit him because it didn’t puncture too deeply to where he is ok and he is functional,” said his Mother.

The Mom is afraid to go back to that home, so her family started an online fundraiser to cover expenses.
