Metro Atlanta police department now using mental health app to help with stress of the job

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Avondale Estates police officers have a new tool to help them deal with the stress of their jobs.

The city has partnered with a California company, called Cordico, to give officers free access to a comprehensive wellness app.

It features a toolkit addressing the mental health challenges they face such as PTSD. depression and anxiety.

“Mental and physical wellness is critical to a professional, successful police force. The Avondale Estates Police Department is proud to adopt the Cordico Wellness App and prioritize the health and wellbeing of our personnel, their families and the community,” Chief Harry Hess told Channel 2 Action News. “We want to be on the forefront of changing public safety culture when it comes to mental health and wellness, and leveraging this technology helps us do so in a way that works for our department.”

The department told Channel 2 Action News that the app will be confidential for users.

Hundreds of agencies and organizations around the nation use the technology, according to police.
