Man shot after being caught by Chamblee police in suspected stolen vehicle identified by GBI

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A man driving a stolen car was shot in the parking lot of a Chamblee Walgreens Thursday morning, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Chamblee police told Channel 2 Action News that officers found a suspected suspected stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the pharmacy on Peachtree Boulevard Thursday morning.

When officers tried to contact the driver, later identified as 24-year-old Jeremiah Quincy Kinard, he tried to speed off in the SUV. A Chamblee Police Department officer shot at Kinard, hitting and injuring him.

Kinard was taken to the hospital, where he was listed as stable.

Channel 2′s Michael Seiden was at Walgreens, where he spoke with police about the shooting.

“There was more than one shot fired. As far as the number of times the person was that has not been determined by any of here,” Chamblee Police Chief Michael Dieppa said.

Chamblee police told Channel 2 Action News that the police officer involved in the shooting is OK.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case. This is the 103rd officer-involved shooting in Georgia this year.
