No injuries after officer fires shots in scuffle with suspect making threats, Brookhaven police say

BROOKHAVEN, Ga. — Police are currently investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened Monday evening.

Brookhaven police confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that they are on the scene of the shooting.

According to police, at around 4:45 p.m., a man physically threatened staff and customers at a hotel bar, making threats to “shoot people in the head” after being asked to leave by management.

The man left the bar and headed towards Dunwoody Drive and Rustic Ridge Drive.

Officers saw the man who matched the description of calls to 911.

An officer approached the man and was involved in a physical scuffle with him in front of a home.

Police say the continued active resistance of the man led to an ineffective stun gun deployment and eventually to the officer firing shots.

Additional officers arrived at the scene and the suspect was taken into custody. The shots did not strike anyone but did hit a car parked nearby.

The man was arrested and booked into the DeKalb County Jail.

An investigations team with Brookhaven police are investigating the use of force.

Police say a firearm believed to belong to the man has been recovered.
