DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A DeKalb County man told Channel 2 Action News he was pepper-sprayed and carjacked while filling up his gas tank over the weekend.
The carjacking happened around 7:30 a.m. Sunday at the Texaco on North Decatur Road in Scottdale.
The driver had almost no time to react seconds after picking up the pump. On the other side of the pump, a masked man was waiting for him -- not with a gun -- but with pepper spray that he used all over the victim's face.
Surveillance video Channel 2's Matt Johnson obtained shows the moment the victim ran as the masked man chased him to get his car keys.
The victim handed his keys over and police said the carjacker took off in the victim's car.
Johnson showed the video to customers at the Texaco.
“I’m already paranoid about my surroundings, but now it makes me want to be one driving home. I don’t want to get gas over here,” Savannah Smith said.

Detectives have identified the robber with pepper spray as 21-year-old Jevon Jackson.
They released images of a second suspect they're trying to identify.
“I’m glad to know that this happened so I can be more alert of my surroundings,” Larry Robinson said.
The video shows the carjacker was waiting in a white Hyundai Elantra for potential victims.
Customer Thurman Blake said he is as cautious as possible when pumping gas.
“I’m looking around. I make sure my keys are in my pocket,” Blake said.
Blake said avoiding the gas station isn't an option for him.
“It’s just sad. I mean, how are you going to function afterward? You can’t say, ‘I’m not going to ever buy gas again,’” Blake said.
The victim told Johnson he is doing OK after the attack. Police said they have obtained warrants for the robber but have not yet located him.
