20 students treated for minor injuries after DeKalb County school bus crashes into ditch

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Nearly 20 students were being treated for minor injuries after a school bus crashed into a ditch on Wednesday morning.

The crash happened in the 4200 block of River Road near Flakes Mill Road in the Ellenwood area Wednesday.

Channel 2′s Tyisha Fernandes confirmed with DeKalb County School District that there were 25 Salem Middle School students on board at the time of the crash.

“Only minor injuries reported, but as a precautionary measure, almost 20 of them have gone to area medical facilities to be checked out. The majority of them were transported by their parents,” the district said in a statement.

A DeKalb County Fire Department spokesman told Channel 2 Action News that paramedics took two of those students to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for treatment.

A passenger in the other car involved in the crash was also transported to a hospital.
