DEKALB COUNTY, Ga — The family of 28-year-old Deven Tillis says closure is what they need to mend their heartbreak.
“No words can describe just you know, it’s a heartbreaking pain that this has caused me and my family,” said Rodney Tillis, Deven’s father.
On July 24, Kitamu Jackson says she got the news that her son had been shot while out shopping for her birthday.

She says he was walking out of the Citgo gas station on Rockbridge Road near South Hairston in Stone Mountain. She says he was on his way to his 8-year-old son’s football game, but that was halted by gunfire.
“It’s heartbreaking, it’s heartbreaking,” Jackson said.
Jackson says when Tillis got to the sidewalk, his family says a car approached the gas station, opening fire. She says one of those bullets struck Tillis in the stomach.
“He was talking, he was able to say his name and social and when he got to the hospital he passed,” Jackson said.
