STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. — A Stone Mountain man is changing the lives of children through the beautiful game of chess.
For Chess Master Orrin Hudson, chess is more than moving pieces on a board, it’s a chance to make the right moves in life.
“We’re teaching children six magic words: take time to think things through,” Hudson told Channel 2′s Fred Blankenship. “My ideal concept is to teach these young people to aim high, to level up, man up, stand up, and pull your pants up.”

Out of his home in Stone Mountain, he teaches kids and young adults the basics as part of his “Be Someone” program.
Hudson says that, with just five minutes on the clock, chess teaches the right moves - win or lose.
He’s a former gang member turned state trooper who’s dedicated the last 25 years to teaching chess around the globe.
He’s met some famous people along the way, but it’s the kids who stay trouble-free who are the real stars.
“What has the game of chess taught you?” Blankenship asked student Wes Allen.
“It taught me to think before you move and some moves you can’t recover from them,” Allen replied.
He also has a $1,000 challenge for any of his students who can beat him.
Well... kind of. He’s good, not crazy.
“For 10 straight weeks I’ve been training these kids, so I’ve got to put them on the ‘do not play’ list,” Hudson said.
If you’re a single parent and having trouble with your kids, he would like you to contact him.
He will teach your child chess at no charge to you.
However he does need donations to keep his program running and expanding.
