DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Thursday evening DeKalb County confirmed with Channel 2 Action News in a written release that a stop work order is in place at the future site of the new Atlanta Public Safety Training Facility currently under construction.

“According to the stop work order, on April 6, DeKalb County inspectors observed that the required silt fence and other erosion control measures were malfunctioning,” the county said in a news release Thursday night.

Channel 2 Action News also reached out to the City of Atlanta for comment and received documentation that shows DeKalb County’s chief building official - deputy director, Marcus Robinson notifying the City of Atlanta that the county would be removing the stop work order, effective Thursday, April 6.

“Please note that I have verified the accuracy of the inspector report as showing compliance of the BMP’s. Based upon that meeting with the Supervisor and Manager of the inspection division we are removing the STOP WORK ORDER today,” the email read.

DeKalb County officials issued an updated statement to Channel 2 Action News shortly after that stating the following:

Atlanta Police Foundation was sent an email at 4:45 p.m. stating that the stop work order was lifted after a report by two inspectors was reviewed by the county’s chief building official. The review confirmed that the BMPs had been brought back into compliance with DeKalb County building codes.

Crews have just recently started clearing the land at the site which has been the center of controversy for months.
