Thieves break into cars, steal wheels at Chamblee apartment complex

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Chamblee police want to find the thieves who smashed into several cars in an apartment complex, stealing tablets, tires, wallets and wheels.

Porcelain Mills just bought a new 2017 Honda Accord Sport Saturday morning. She walked out of her apartment at Anderson at Clairmont on Northeast Expressway in Chamblee, and couldn't believe what she saw.

"I was, like, you really have to be kidding me. Like, are you serious?" Mills said.

Mills snapped pictures of her vehicle, which was propped up on bricks. The photos show that the car is missing wheels and tires.

Thieves smashed her window, but they left a spare key on the seat.

"My car key was in there," Mills said. "So I was, like, you could have just taken my whole car."

On Saturday morning, police said the burglars had been after smaller items, such as wallets and tablets.

Investigators said they had broken into six cars, including a truck, but two Hondas were the only cars from which all four wheels were taken.

Police told Channel 2's Rikki Klaus that Hondas are the most stolen cars in the country, and their wheels are a hot item right now.

Mills is planning to move. The recent burglaries at her complex leave her feeling uncomfortable, because she has a 7-month-old baby.

"I'm just leaving," Mills said. "But for everyone else that's here, that they beef up security, that they hire someone."

Mills said the burglars took one of her neighbor's credit cards and swiped it within minutes of the incident.

Chamblee police are still searching for the thieves
