DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A south DeKalb County Burger King has re-opened after a deadly shooting inside the business.

It happened at the restaurant on Memorial Drive near Rockbridge Road on Monday afternoon.

Family members told Channel 2's Chris Jose they are upset that traumatized employees weren't sent home for the day.

“It's not fair to the workers, and it's not fair to the people who are coming there and don't know someone has just been killed in that restaurant,” one relative told Jose, asking not to be identified.

She said a loved one witnessed the deadly shooting.

“I think it's horrible these employees have to back in, clean up, and get ready as if it's business as usual,” the relative said.

Police say a 37-year old man is dead. Investigators told Jose the gunman approached the couple inside the Burger King. There was an argument and the victim overpowered the suspected shooter.

“That's when the suspect pulled the weapon and fired at the victim,” said Shiere Campbell with the DeKalb County Police Department.

The bullet also hit a woman, injuring her arm. She's recovering at a nearby hospital.

The victim who was killed has not been identified yet.

“He stumbled outside where he died,” Campbell said.

Police said all three people knew each other. The shooter is cooperating with the investigation. It's not yet known if he'll be charged.

Police say it's possible he was defending himself.

“Let the community know what's going on, shut down the Burger King for a day or so, give those young people some counseling, because some of them have to grieve for a minute or so,” the relative told Jose.

After police cleared the scene, the restaurant reopened late Monday afternoon.

An employee told Jose off camera he spent the day cleaning up the restaurant.

The employee also told Jose, customers were inside the restaurant when the shooting took place. He said the shooter fired one shot.

Employees were advised not to speak on camera. The manager of the restaurant hung up on Jose when he called to comment.

Burger King's corporate office has not returned Jose’s calls or emails about the situation.
