U.S. Navy reservist, Uber driver shot killed in DeKalb County. Family searching for answers

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A U.S. Navy Reservist was murdered in Stone Mountain Monday, according to Dekalb County Police Department.

Investigators found Chris Estrada-Petersen, 25, shot to death at City Market BP gas station on Rockdale Road, before 5:00 a.m. Monday.

Estrada-Petersen served as a YNSN at the Navy Reserve Center, Atlanta on Dobbins ARB.

Thursday, family and friends were trying to help his grandmother come up with the money to pay for his funeral and ensure he’s rendered honors.

“He did everything with her. He always supported her. He loved her. He loved his siblings,” said Dajahni Estrara-Petersen.

The Petty Officer was the oldest of five children. He grew up in Henry County, and he joined the Navy in 2022.

He transitioned to the reserves after police found his kid sister shot and killed his kid, Sade Brooks, in Oct. 2023.

“He was saying he doesn’t regret his service to the Navy, but he always wanted to be home with his family in case something like this happened,” said his little brother.

Fellow service members said they were just with him at Dobbins ARB over the weekend for monthly duty.

Family said he did drive for Uber at times, but they are not sure if he was at work when someone shot him in Stone Mountain.

Police have not said if they believe it was targeted or if a stray bullet hit him.

Now, the family is working to come up with the funds to pay for a second funeral.

“We already decided that, whatever it takes, we are going to come together and figure out what we have to do for him, but we weren’t expecting it now at all,” said Dajahni Estrada-Petersen.
