DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — People in a Dekalb County neighborhood have water again after a water main break Sunday morning.
Water erupted on Sherbrooke Drive off of Shallowford Road around 7 a.m..
“I walked out to the end of the driveway and looked up the street and just saw this geyser,” said Billie Sherrod, who called in the break. “It was at least 20 or more feet high.”

Sherrod told Channel 2′s Eryn Rogers she and her neighbors were without water for about five hours.
“They were very responsive today to come out on a Sunday and fix this problem,” Sherrod said.
Crews with Dekalb County Watershed Management said the geyser was caused by a connection piece on the water main that broke. They believe the cold weather played a part.
Louie Shamatta owns the home where the water main break happened and agrees.
“Had to be the cold, there’s really no insulation or ground cover there,” Shamatta said.

Crews finished the repairs around five Sunday evening. They also salted the road, so ice would not form as the temperature drops throughout the night.
Plumbers with Roto-Rooter say people need to drip their faucets, open cabinets, and doors where pipes are located, and insulate outside water sources like hoses.
“A couple of dollars on the front end will save you thousands of dollars in water damage and restoration, and things you can’t buy again, precious things that might be damaged by water,” said Jamaal Davidson with Roto-Rooter.
Roto-Rooter said if pipes do freeze, people can use hair dryers or space heaters to thaw the pipes.
