Witnesses recall hearing gunfire as armed robbery suspect shot, killed at Chamblee motel

CHAMBLEE, Ga. — A man charged with several armed robberies was shot and killed by a Chamblee police officer at a motel on Tuesday night.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says Terrell Hoggro, 59, was wanted on several felony warrants out of Lawrenceville. When Chamblee officers went to arrest him, Hoggro pulled out a gun and officers fired at him.

Guests staying at the Chamblee motel described the frightening moments to Channel 2′s Michael Seiden when they said they had to run for cover.

“It was crazy. I just ran to my to my bathroom, like to cover myself, because I don’t know what was going on,” a neighbor who didn’t want to be identified said.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation told Channel 2 Action News that Lawrenceville police received a tip that Hoggro was hiding out in a room at the Quality Inn on Northwest Expressway.

Hoggro was wanted on multiple felony warrants connected to armed robberies, including one in October where he is accused of robbing a Lawrenceville gas station.

Investigators say police were conducting surveillance on Hoggro when he left the motel room, prompting officers to attempt to arrest him. At that point, Hoggro pulled a gun from his waist, which led an officer to shoot him, according to GBI investigators.

Channel 2 Action News spotted three bullet holes outside the suspect’s room.

The GBI will serve as the lead investigator, which is routine whenever an officer fires his/her gun while on duty.
