DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — The second DeKalb County police officer injured in a shooting last week was released from the hospital Thursday.
Officer Tony Luong was shot in the thigh while responding to a home invasion at an apartment complex last Friday. A second officer, Devon Perry, was also shot.
Perry, who was shot in the calf, was treated and released from the hospital. Luong was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he underwent surgery. He has been recovering in the hospital since that day.
Police say both officers were shot with an assault rifle. Those officers returned fire, hitting both suspects.
Both suspects were taken to the hospital. One of the suspects, identified as Ivy Shumake, was released from the hospital Thursday and booked into the DeKalb County Jail. Police say he led officers on a four hour manhunt before his arrest.
The second suspect, identified as Eddie Ball, remains in the hospital.
On Friday, DeKalb Public Safety Director Dr. Cedric Alexander said at a minimum Shumake is facing charges of home invasion, armed robbery and aggravated assault on a police officer.
